Environmental approvals are required for the proposed: mine site and infrastructure; desalination plant; port expansion; and power transmission line. Grange Resources Ltd (Grange) is the proponent as Feasibility Manager, and on behalf of the Southdown Joint Venture, which comprises Grange Resources Ltd and SRT Australia Pty Ltd.

Environmental Biodiversity and Conservation Act (Commonwealth)
- Grange Resources has referred the mine and desalination Project to the Department of the Environment and Energy on 27 July 2011. The supporting documentation for the public comment period can be found here
- Southern Ports Authority has obtained EPBC Act approval for the Port Upgrade and this was granted an extension on 6 November 2015.
